Your ID Has Been Stolen

by Pete on June 1, 2010

I know this is a very hyped up headline, but folks this is no joke. I got an email from my friend and Internet Marketer Don Shickle the other day and after I read it, I decided to check it out.

When I got to the site he told me about I was shocked. My private info is exposed for the whole world to see. Granted some of it was not true, but enough was there to cause me great concern.

Needless to say, I followed the instructions in Don’s Email and got my name and information off of the site. I think you should consider this and go there yourself. Chances are very good (or should I say bad?) that your on the this site too.

First let me reprint the Email I got from Don so you can sense the enormity and urgency of whats going on.

ATTENTION EVERYONE THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!!!

ATTENTION EVERYONE—There’s a site called www.spokeo.com and it’s an online phone book that has pictures that you have posted on facebook; home phone number, credit score, profession, home value, income , # of children, profession, age, etc.

Remove yourself by the Privacy button on the bottom right on their website. I personally checked it out and just removed my listing . PLEASE COPY & REPOST……

Just in case you cannot find the info on the site, here are the instructions

To remove Name & Phone Listings:

1. Locate the listing you want removed
2. Copy the URL. The URL can be found on the top of your browser and should look something like:

http://www.spokeo.com/search?q=John+Doe#California:1219812367

3. Go to http://www.spokeo.com/privacy
4. Paste the URL from step 2
5. Provide your email address (required to verify that you are not a spammer or automated bot)
6. Check your Inbox for the confirmation email, and click on the provided link to complete removal process
7. The directory listing should be removed immediately

If you are encountering difficulties, please ensure that you read all the instructions, making sure the URL, code and email address verification is correctly entered. Please check your SPAM folder for a message titled Spokeo Directory Removal Confirmation if it does not appear in your inbox.

To remove Email Listings:

Our reverse email search reflects only what is found in public profiles across supported social networks. We do not create, host or alter any of the information you see and as such, cannot make any changes for you. If information such as your name or photo is showing on the Email Search page, you have a profile registered on one of our supported networks, such as MySpace, Twitter or Hi5.

To remove any information associated with your email address, simply find out which social networks you belong to, log in accordingly and remove the content. Some networks allow you to set your profile or photos to “private”, which would also ensure that your information is hidden. Our system periodically refreshes its search results, and will reflect your new privacy settings. Please allow up to 30 days for your changes to appear.

Don Shickle,

And there you have it. As I mentioned, I went to the site and I was listed there. Way too much info about me and some of it was not right either. While there I found about 20 other Pete Bass’ some of them were listed with the same photo but different addresses in different states.

My advice to you is go to Spokeo and find out what they have done with your name.

Onward and Upward,
Pete
